Renaissance Spotlights Energy Security at Strategic Oil and Gas Seminar

Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, in partnership with the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), successfully hosted the Oil and Gas Seminar for Directors and Senior Government Officials from June 2 to 3, 2026, at the Muhammadu Buhari Auditorium, PSIN, Abuja.

The two-day seminar brought together senior public sector leaders and industry experts to deepen collaboration, enhance institutional capacity, and strengthen alignment between government and industry in advancing Nigeria's energy security and economic growth.

Delivering the welcome address, the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of PSIN, Barrister Imeh Okon, underscored the Institute's commitment to building a world-class public service equipped with the knowledge and competencies required to effectively engage with Nigeria's evolving energy landscape.

The opening session featured goodwill messages and remarks from key government representatives. The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, was represented by Mrs. Patience Oyekunle, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, while the Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) was represented by Engineer Ignatius Anyanwu. Both emphasised the importance of strong regulatory frameworks, institutional capacity, and effective partnerships in unlocking value across the oil and gas sector.

Speaking on behalf of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, Mr. Igo Weli delivered a keynote presentation titled “The Renaissance Story: The Birth of a New Era,” where he highlighted the company's transformation journey and long-term vision to drive energy security and industrialisation in a sustainable manner.

Emphasising the real-world impact of energy access, Mr. Weli noted: “Energy security is key for that barber, the lady with a salon, for that man with a plant doing something small employing people — energy security is key.”

He stressed that beyond macroeconomic goals, reliable energy remains fundamental to the survival and growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises, which form the backbone of Nigeria's economy. According to him, bridging the gap between policy intent and execution is essential to ensuring that energy translates into tangible opportunities for everyday Nigerians.

Mr. Weli further emphasised the need for policy-to-execution alignment, accelerated exploration and production, and a strengthened enabling environment to support Nigeria's growth ambitions.

Participants engaged in a series of high-impact sessions, exploring critical themes across governance, regulatory frameworks, leadership development, and opportunities for collaboration between government and industry. The seminar also provided a platform for knowledge exchange on Renaissance's operations across exploration, development, and production, as well as its commitment to technology-driven growth, environmental stewardship, and Nigerian content development.
